General Augustin Moreau is a Malkavian Antitribu member of the Black Hand working in Canada with two other Kindred and a few Ghouls. He acts as pack Ductus, and leads his Column in combat. He is no-nonsense and deeply strict over a set of ever-changing rules. He isn't very emotional, and likes to make sure everything is optimized.

He originally lived in France, but now lives in Montreal. He, his pack, and his army travel around in two fully outfitted military vans, attacking and demolishing small Camarilla populations in rural Canada. His van is driven during the day by his oldest Ghoul, Commandant Jean-Paul, who has been with him for 70 years.

Pre-Embrace

The General was originally a standard French man living and working on the Southern coast in the mid-1800s. It was around the industrial revolution, and he was a worker in a steel mill that called for rather extensive physical labor. He had no involvement in the military at all before his Embrace. He lived alone, and had no real family to speak of. His name was Augustin, but his original last name as been lost to time.

Embrace

The General was Embraced as a Shovelhead- a classic Sabbat grunt fighter. Bashed over the head, Embraced, and buried, the General was torn from his previous life without warning. After the initial fight he had been shoveled for, his sire was impressed that he had survived, since shovelheads aren't meant to survive the fight they're made for. She took him under her wing and kept him around as a soldier for her cause, teaching him the basics and the rules of her Path. He steadily worked his way up from Shovelhead status and adopted the Path of Power and the Inner Voice like his sire.

First Metamorphosis

Around 20 years after his Embrace, approximately 1890, the General's sire broke one of the codes of her Path- she failed at a task, and brushed it off without taking personal responsibility or facing consequences. This deeply offended the General, who had been taught by her that failure was unforgivable and that it must be punished. Thus, he took it upon himself to enact the punishment she deserved. He frenzied, killing and diablerizing her, and spent a week in his first Malkavian metamorphosis. During this time, he came to realize that it was his right to replace her, and that he had earned a commanding position in the sort of army she had been running. He named himself a Colonel, and developed one of his most powerful derangements- The War. He truly and wholeheartedly believes he is fighting an actual literal war, and that he is a commanding officer in this war. Around this time, he created his first and most important ghoul, Jean-Paul. During this time he wore a typical 1887 commanding officer's uniform. He also ended up deluding himself into believing that he was a direct descendent of the French general Jean Victor Marie Moreau, and changed his last name.

Second Metamorphosis

For many years, the General led his little army in small fights around France against the Camarilla. However, he found it rather hard to get his foot in the door, given the extensive history of the battle and his comparatively young age. He made Ghouls and Shovelheads alike, put them through insane tests of skill, and killed off the ones he deemed unworthy.
Around World War 1, the General ended up on the wrong end of one of the new technologies of war- an automatic fire machine gun. It ripped through much of his brain matter, and while it didn't kill him, the process of growing back this brain matter rerouted a lot of his mental facilities. He frenzied, killing the poor mortal soldiers that had fired on him, and spent a week in his van working through his personal failures. When he recovered, he decided it was time to upgrade his army and mobilize. He realized that his army was behind the times, and that fighting in Europe would do no good with the resources he had. He decided it was time to move to the Americas, where the fight against the Camarilla was more volitile and easier to command. He killed off all of his ghouls except for Jean-Paul, and got on a boat to Canada.

Appearance

The General wears a light blue French WW1 uniform, perfectly pristine and tailored. It comes with brown leather boots laced up to the knee and brown leather gloves. He often forgoes the hat.
His hair is light brown and slicked back carefully. He has a somewhat decent beard as a result of Vicissitude thanks to his pack's Tzimisce, but he really just likes it for the routine of shaving it every morning. He's a very well groomed man.
There is a large scar running down the right side of his face, not deep enough to damage his eye, but enough to mar his eyebrow and upper lip, which gives him a bit of a sneer. This exposes one of his fangs, which do not retract.
His irises are pure white, which gives him a deeply unnerving appearance.

Behavior

The General is strict, cold, and violent. He leads his cadets with no mercy and is quick to punish any sort of mistake. He delights in war tactics, and spends a lot of time pouring over his war table of maps and figurines. He leads drills with his recruits and will not hesitate to strike or even kill someone that isn't keeping up. He expects the best of his recruits, and won't settle for anything less.
He is generally pleasant with his pack members, and is even a rather charismatic man, but tends to come across as completely and utterly cruel and unfeeling. He shows his affection in strange and sometimes unnerving ways. A pep talk may come across as shouted criticisms, praise may come in the form of no feedback at all. He is most obviously affectionate towards Jean-Paul, sometimes praising him openly and acting more casual around him than his other cadets. With his pack members he is also more casual, not ever completely, but he can relax enough to joke around and laugh a bit.
That being said, he's a very formal man. He doesn't like to waste time, and often thinks that dedicating time to having fun is a waste of time. His pack members have to trick him into having fun.

Notes

  • The General smokes Gitanes cigarettes, as does Jean-Paul. His cadets are provided a pack of Gaulouises with their enlistment.
  • The General possesses a strange variety of skills, including obscure dances, languages, and games.
  • Chess is the General's absolute favorite game. He and Jean-Paul play a homebrewed version of chess based on actual war that involves... a lot of made-up moves. He also tries to figure out ways to play actual war games, although no formal/official war games have been invented yet.
  • His pack members are Maistru, a Tzimisce that acts as Pact Priest, and Brigadier, an Angelis Ater that plays the infantry role in combat. All cadets are required to use these titles for them, which were chosen by the General, not the people themselves.
  • During regular day-to-day time, the General has around three or four Ghouls at once, including Jean-Paul. At the moment, his other two Ghouls are Lieutenant Katrina Seydoux and Lieutenant Gale Proft.
  • The General's Ghouling process is referred to in shorthand as Recruitment. It does not happen by choice for anyone.
  • Being from Southern France, the General greets his close friends (just his packmates) with la bise, the greeting involving a kiss on each cheek. He did not do this until he reached a certain level of Viniculum, and there was no warning that he was going to begin doing so.
